Biography

Thomas Nilsson is a photojournalist with three decades of experience working for prominent newspapers and media companies.  Originally from Stockholm, Thomas currently resides in New York. He began photographing professionally at age 18 working on assignments for magazines and newspapers in Stockholm.

Thomas moved to New York City in 1997. Since 2002, he has been the U.S. photographer for the Norwegian daily newspaper Verdens Gang, covering news and feature stories across the United States and Latin America.

Throughout his career, Thomas has repeatedly been awarded in the Swedish and Norwegian "Picture of the Year" competitions, including for his documentation of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi and New Orleans.

In 2004, Thomas published the photo book Uppdrag: USA (Assignment: USA) in Sweden.
